Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO BEFORE ATTENDING THE COURSE?

All SIA courses have Pre-Course Self Study. Depending on the course they vary from 3 to 8 hours in total. These are compulsory and you will do exams in class based on what you learnt at home.

Make sure you do the correct one for your course! The SIA also require an English Assessment and Registration Form to be completed.

All of this must be emailed to us before training begins. Send altogether in ONE email to [email protected]

Your name and course date must be the subject heading for the email.

DO I NEED TO COMPLETE THE PRE-COURSE SELF STUDY?

Yes. It is not possible to pass the course unless this is all completed. Please send to us as soon as possible. You will then be informed if any changes are required. All requested documents must be returned to info@greenmantraining.co.uk in ONE email with your name and course date as the subject heading.

It will not be accepted otherwise.

DO I NEED A FIRST AID QUALIFICATION?

Yes. It is an SIA requirement for any course for Door Supervisors and Security Officers, including Top-Up training, that you hold a nationally recognised First Aid qualification.

We can provide this training. If you already have the qualification, for it to be accepted by the SIA, it must be nationally accredited and less than 2 years old.

HOW DO I GET A PIN CODE TO DO ACT TRAINING?
Send an email to [email protected] with the subject ‘PIN request for ACT e-learning’.

The SIA will reply with a PIN.

Then go to the ACT e-learning website.

Enter the PIN when asked for an access / PIN code

WHAT IF I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH ACT ONLINE COURSES?

First check the Frequently Asked Questions on the ACT website.

If that does not help, call Highfield Awarding Body on 01302 363277 and ask for the E-learning department. (Office hours, Monday to Friday.)

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO A COURSE?

For SIA courses – Pen, Pencil, Rubber, Notebook, Passport type photo and 3 forms of ID that match those in the current SIA list.

(See list in our Download section. You need one item from Group A, two from Group B.)

CAN I PARK ON SITE?

Yes car parking is free between 8.30am and 5pm.

We are outside the congestion charge zone and just inside the ULEZ zone.

IS THERE A NEARBY TRAIN STATION?

Yes – White Hart Lane Overground is 5 minutes walk away. Trains take 20 minutes to and from Liverpool Street. Wood Green tube station is a 10 minute bus ride away on the W3 bus.

IS THERE ANYWHERE TO EAT ?

Yes – Cafe on site. Opens at 9:30am.

Off site – 200 metres away – is Queens Cafe in Queen Street. Opens at 7am.

WHAT IF I AM LATE FOR A COURSE?

The SIA expects students to all arrive well before the start time and to not miss any of the training.

We are not allowed to admit latecomers. Arrive early and have breakfast at the Queens Cafe!

If late you are likely to be told to attend the next course if there is space on it. There will be a cost implication for this.

WHAT IF I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT DURING THE COURSE?

You will need to attend a future training course instead. Full attendance is mandatory.

There will be a cost implication if the course has already started before you inform us.

CAN I GET HELP DURING AN EXAM?

No. The exams are run by independent invigilators. Trainers are not present. Talking is not allowed. Phones, notes and electronic devices not permitted.

WHAT HAPPENS IF SOMEONE CHEATS IN AN EXAM?

We have to report this immediately to the SIA awarding body. There are various checks in place to uncover cheating that we cannot fully disclose.

Anyone found or suspected of cheating is likely to be permanently banned from all SIA courses nationally and never allowed to get an SIA licence!

WHAT IS THE PASS RATE?

This varies slightly from course to course, from 70% to 80% of questions being correct to achieve a pass. Exams are multiple choice with 4 choices of answer each time. Only one is correct.

Courses have practical tasks as well that have to be tested and passed. Most also have to be filmed as evidence as part of the assessment.

WHAT IF I FAIL?

You can retake twice any exam that you fail.

You only retake the exam/s that you fail.

WHEN AND HOW WILL I GET MY RESULTS?

We post all exams to the SIA exam board within 24 hours to speed up the process.

About 2 weeks later, the exam board will complete checking all of the documents we send.

The exam board then notify us and also upload the results to the SIA on the same day.

We let you know your result the same day.

You will get a text message from us.

The SIA will put this qualification into your account. They take between 1 and 21 days to do this!

CAN WE UPLOAD YOUR RESULTS TO THE SIA / SPEED UP GETTING RESULTS TO YOUR SIA ACCOUNT?

No, this is not possible. Only Awarding Bodies (Exam Boards) have the ability to upload results to the SIA. Training Companies, Trainers and Students cannot do this or access the system. This is how the SIA set their system up.

Despite this, when there are delays in results showing in accounts the SIA frequently tells students to get their ‘training companies to upload the results’ to them! They don’t know how their own system works as this is not possible.

The SIA also blame delays in qualifications showing up in SIA accounts because ‘Awarding Bodies can take up to 21 days to upload results’ to them. This is not true, the exam boards usually upload to the SIA on the same day they release the results to us and to you.

Do not accept these excuses. Delays can only be down to the SIA.

The only other possibility is that your SIA account details are different to the details on your exam papers eg a middle name not being used.

WHEN CAN I GET MY SIA LICENCE?

You can only apply once it shows in your SIA account.

As a rough guide it will take 2 to 3 weeks for the SIA to be told your results by the exam board (from your exam date) as they have to receive and mark them.

The SIA then take between 1 and 21 days to put this into your account. Sometimes longer still.

HOW DO I GET MY CERTIFICATE?

Once you get your text to tell you that you have passed, send an email to [email protected]

Put your name, Certificate Request and course date in the subject heading to help us locate the correct one.

An email will be sent back to you with your e-certificate attached.

What is your policy on refunding course booking deposits?

Courses are booked by paying a deposit. These secure your booking on the course which have very limited places. The deposit is refundable, less a £20 handling and admin fee, only until 7 days before the course begins. Refunds will be made within 7 days of request.
